As the holidays approach, Riga’s citizens and visitors are treated to a new visual campaign every time. One of the creative professionals who takes care of this is Dārta Sakārne, a designer and creative director who works as a project coordinator in the Marketing Department of Riga City Council. In the Nice Touch section, Dārta talks about what helps her create new ideas.

«For a while now, one of my favourite places to generate ideas has been the car. For a long time, I drove without a Bluetooth converter, and as a result, I became very fond of the radio. First of all, I don’t have to choose what to listen to (one less decision). Secondly, when I listen to the radio, I seem to access information that I would not have sought myself. Often, while listening to the most unlikely radio programmes, songs, or interviews, I have heard exactly the answers I needed at the time. I believe that all the answers are around us; we just have to see them and hear them.»

Dārta Sakārne studied interdisciplinary art at the Maastricht Institute of Arts in the Netherlands. She uses a variety of media, such as graphic and interactive design, video, text, and photography, to gently provoke society and invite reflection on the relationship between the human-centred and natural worlds and where we are headed.
