Fashion designer Agnese Narņicka, founder of the brand One Wolf, creates laconic unisex garments that do not follow changing fashion trends, putting the creativity of the wearer at the forefront. Alongside her brand, Agnese also runs the Fashion Design Department at the Art Academy of Latvia and passes on her knowledge to young fashion designers. In the Nice Touch section, Agnese talks about a place that will allow design professionals and students to materialise innovative ideas.

Nice Touch Editorial December 6, 2024

«In the Riga Makerspace prototyping workshop complex, I will finally have the opportunity to experiment with materials, shapes, and technologies in one place. They have a wide range of technologies and tools available: the latest 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, vacuum presses, various industrial sewing machines, and even a digital knitting machine. What I like the most are the fashion design and textile workshops, which are able to provide not only prototyping but also a complete production process. From designing, printing, and cutting material in large volumes to the application of various technological seams, as well as post-processing—washing, embroidering, or treating the fabric, for example, with a laser. Among the wide range of equipment, it is worth highlighting the machine that tapes internal seams to create, for example, a high-quality raincoat, as well as the digital knitting machine, which allows you to create intricate patterns while ensuring high-quality and fast results.

Most importantly, all these possibilities will be available to young designers who will use these technologies in their experiments during their studies to innovate and collaborate with others in the industry at a professional level.»

Agnese Narņicka is the designer of the brand One Wolf since 2012 and a lecturer at the Art Academy of Latvia. For the fourth year, she is the head of the Fashion Design Department and organises the annual fashion show at the academy. This year Agnese completed her professional doctorate in art and design, where her thesis, The Silent Project, explored the impact of walking and wandering on the generation of creative ideas.

The prototyping workshop Riga Makerspace at Aristīda Briāna iela 13 was opened recently, on November 29. The project is expected to provide new opportunities for students, creative professionals, and entrepreneurs, who will have access to advanced workshops and prototyping technologies.
