Photographer Filips Šmits captures people in vivid and somewhat utopian photographs, which are most aptly described by the title of his photo series Sun Kissed, where he captures staged scenes of people relaxing in an urban environment. Filips’ work could also be seen in the visual communication of the Autumn Riga Restaurant Week. In the Nice Touch section, Filips recommends a thing that helps fight the autumn darkness.
«I use an infrared light therapy lamp, which is very helpful in the winter season when we have very limited natural sunlight. It emits a spectrum of red light between 610 and 904 nm, replicating the spectrum of sunset or sunrise light. Clinical trials and my own experience have shown that it is very effective for helping seasonal depression, the microbiome and mitochondria in the body, as well as improving circadian rhythms.»
Filips Šmits studied photography at the University of the Arts in London. In 2020, FK Magazine named him the best young Latvian photographer. Alongside his art projects, such as the Sun Kissed series, Filips is a commercial photographer, producing images for advertisements in Latvia, Europe, and the USA.
