Designer and researcher Tīna Alise Drupa is interested in critically and speculatively exploring the relationship between human beings and different life forms. Tomorrow, on August 3, Tīna together with designer Rūta Jumīte will lead the Meadow Blanket Workshop at the Latvian Fund for Nature’s Meadow Festival in Uzvaras Park, inviting participants to gain a deeper understanding of meadow plants. In the Nice Touch section, Tīna talks about her way of focusing attention.

Nice Touch Editorial August 2, 2024

«When looking for a work rhythm to write project applications or essays, I have found that productivity in a fixed place has an expiry date. The most effective tool for renewing productivity is the ability to find a new vantage point in the most literal sense: to sit on the other side of the desk, to place it in another room, against an unusual wall, or in the middle of the room. If all these techniques have lost their effectiveness at critical deadline moments, I suggest sitting under the desk. Contrary to people who seek spaciousness for their thoughts by reducing space, there are fewer things around to distract me, and my thoughts do not wander more than a few centimetres. I used to think that not being able to find peace in one place was a problem, but it is so important to know yourself and find the tools that help you to move forward in times of entanglement.»

Tīna Alise Drupa graduated from the interdisciplinary Human Ecology programme at the College of the Atlantic in Maine, USA, and studied design at the Art Academy of Latvia. Tīna is interested in issues related to political ecology, environmental ethics, and multi-species discourse. In her design practice, this interest manifests itself in practical research, creating and facilitating various workshops, and seeking methodological approaches to bringing ecocritical ideas to life. In parallel, Tina writes essays on topics that interest her, which have been published in magazines such as Tvērums, Robida Magazine (Italy), and Freezing in LA! (UK).
