This season, the posters on the city streets feature the visual identity of Riga summer events, created by artist Roberts Rūrāns. The author took inspiration from the coat of arms of Riga and this year’s summer culture programme, which is filled with gaiety, joy, and a diverse range of festivities.
The artist Roberts Rūrāns has made urban posters for the city of Riga before, and this time, he has created the identity of the summer cultural programme, working with the elements of the historical coat of arms of Riga — the golden crown, cross, keys, and lions, which open the gates to the summer in Riga and its rich programme. «I interpreted the coat of arms in a colourful and summery mood, filling it with scenes and characters appropriate to the seasonal programme, creating a feeling of relaxation and having a good time,» comments the author. His summer holiday greeting is not only found on the streets of Riga and in the digital environment, but it can also be downloaded as a screen wallpaper and a colouring page.
In August, Riga celebrates its 823rd birthday, and the slogan of this festive month, which can also be seen in the graphics created by Roberts, is Rejoice, Grow, Praise. The Riga summer festival programme covers all the neighbourhoods of the capital, with a special emphasis on enjoying the holidays by travelling from the right to the left bank of Daugava. The programme of events will culminate on August 16 and 17, when various celebratory events will take place both in Old Riga and in Uzvaras Park, as well as during the festivities of several neighbourhoods on both banks of Daugava. You can find out more about Riga’s summer and birthday events on the programme’s website.
