On Friday, November 1, the Dutch designer and landscape architect Ronald van der Hilst will give two talks in Riga. The lecture «Genius Loci: a Tool for Landscape Architecture» is part of the RISEBA Faculty of Architecture and Design series «Slice of Architecture», but the lecture at the Art Academy of Latvia will be followed by a presentation of the students’ competition «Emotions of Colours by Ceramica Bardelli 2013».
Ronald van der Hilst lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium since 1993 and initially concentrated on garden and landscape architecture, as well as writing for garden magazines. Although it started as a joke, the stereotypical Dutch tulip has become an integral part and the conjunctive thematic and graphic element of his work for 10 years. From 2005 van der Hilst works as a product and graphic designer, and since then his tulip design products have become internationally renown. His crystal tulip vase «Bulbe», produced by «Val Saint Lambert» has been added to the Royal collection in the Netherlands. In different collaboration projects, he has created not only tulip themed classical interior design products, but fashion collections, books, murals, sculptures, jewellery, chandeliers, illustrations and postcards as well. The designer has decorated gardens of museums and designed tulip plantations and private gardens. One of the more recent projects, where tiles by van der Hilst have been used, is the interior for Qingdao metro station in China by «Igloodgn».
The lecture at the Art Academy of Latvia in Riga, Kalpaka bulvāris 13, 1st floor will take place at 10.00 and will be continued with the presentation of the competition «Emotions of Colours by Ceramica Bardelli 2013» for the students of Painting, Functional design and Environmental art departments.
The lecture «Genius Loci: a Tool for Landscape Architecture» will take place at the RISEBA Architecture and Media centre «H2O6» in Riga, Ūdens iela 6, on the 3rd floor, at 17.00. The guest lectures will be held in English and are open for public for free.
The lectures in Riga are brought by interior salon «Krassky» and the Italian design tile manufacturer «Ceramica Bardelli», supported by RISEBA and the Technology Transfer Centre of Art Academy of Latvia.
